Ceramic knives are very popular today and are used by many chefs around the world, due to their long lasting sharpness and clean blade.  A ceramic knife is made from ceramic material, usually zirconium oxide, which is compacted and fired at high temperatures to produce a material harder then steel.

Ceramic kitchen knives have the following advantages over steel bladed knives.
  • Sharpness - A ceramic knife stays much sharper for longer.
  • Discolouration - Ceramic Knives will not rust, tarnish or stain.
  • Hardness - Ceramic knives are harder than steel, only diamond is harder.
  • Hygenic - Ceramic knives are chemically inert and will not give a metallic taste to your food.
  • Cleaning - A ceramic knife is easy to clean with just soap and water.
  • Smoother - The surface of a ceramic knife is smoother than steel which makes it cut through food much easier.
  • Weight - Ceramic knives weigh considerably less than traditional steel blade knives. At about half the weight of a steel knife, ceramic knives are very easy to use around the kitchen.
